Project 1: Design a Board Game

Finally, I think we've got it! (Sort of...)
Right, so it's the end of the 1st week on the board game project and it has been a bit all over the place since our crit on Tuesday. As a group have faced a fair few problems. Some people not liking certain parts of the game but still being keen to make it work and others convinced it was a bad idea all together. Today was judgment day. As "team leader" I, and a few others, knew we HAD to get a solid concept down today. We had to decide whether or not to stick with our "Cowboys & Indians" theme, or start all over again with a new idea.

We decided to make it work. The best part was we even got to the point where we created a concept of a board that we ALL like and think will work. To keep this post shorter than my 1st I think I will talk in bullet points with the newest set of revises rules and, hopefully, I will post up my research so far with annotations. If I manage to get that up I will move onto posting some of my own private work on the board (board concepts, character concepts etc...)

Latest revived rules/concepts...
  • 2 "Indian" & 2 "cowboy" characters.
  • Characters only need to build up a totem pole or guard tower. The reason being that the "new" aim of the game is as follows...You must build up your defence tower to protect your tribe/damsel from the opposition (Cowboys/Indians). The only catch is that your damsel has been captured by the opposition. You must travel around the board landing on set piece squares and avoiding enemy squares. Once your defence has been built you can go and rescue the damsel who will be situated on the board. Return her safely to win.
  • The only cards we will have are a "chance" and "reward" pack. You pick these up depending on if you are on the specific square on the board. Chance cards will be just that, the chance could be positive or negative. Reward cards are new and they work off the new "turn table" element to the board (explained next) and give the player the advantage of keeping the card to use at a later date. They will only be either "move turn table" or "Freeze turn table". You can use these whenever. Maybe have a maximum of 1 or 2 at any time.
  • Turn tables are a new element. The are literally movable pieces on the board that you can turn around, this would change your path. You can use your reward cards to turn other players around on them too. Concept art will show these better, I will post them up asap.
